The people of ancient Greece were polytheistic; this
means that the believed in many gods rather than just one. All of their gods
had histories and backgrounds of how, why, and when they became gods. The
people of ancient Greece didn’t have a scientific explanation, or any real
explanation for anything. Gods were an image that they used to portray why
things happened/happen. Take the seasons for example (will be further explained
later under Major Gods – Demeter).
Also, any other misfortune that was within their lives was considered to be a
result of an act that either disrespected or disobeyed the gods. Their misfortune
was merely punishment from the gods.
